Fishing the Missouri River in Late October
In Montana many of the locals think about hunting in late October and early November but if your a fly fisherman and the weather cooperates you can have some of the best dry fly fishing of the year. When we got to the river (Canyon section) we found the water covered with Pseudos or tiny blue-winged olives size 22.
The drift boat made a big difference to get good presentations without drag to the rising fish in some pretty tight spots. There are few places where you can say you have a reasonable chance to catch a 20+” trout on a dry fly, the Missouri River in Montana is one of them!
