Here we will be tying the fly Hólmfríður by Kolbeinn Grímsson. Note the fly and it’s author Kolbeinn have become legends in Icelandic flyfishing and fly tying.

The fly is named after Hólmfríður at Arnarvatn in the Mývatns region, but she used to be the fishing warden there. Hólmfríður the fly is a great option for both stream and lake fishing and the fly catches brown trout and sea trout.

The fly is special for the sakes that it has only the naked hook shank as a body. It’s simple to tie and totally worth it to keep a few in your box when go fishing.

Fly Pattern

Author: Kolbeinn Grímsson.
Hook: Ahrex NS118 #8.
Thread: 8/0 black.
Body: Small chunk of red wool as shown in video.
Beard/hackle: Red marabou + silver flashabou.
Wing: ⅔ yellow marabou ⅓ brown marabou.
Cheeks: Jungle cock.
Head: Red with a finish of varnish in the end.
