Day 312 - Watching Over The Ladies

A large male brook trout watches over females while they lay their eggs in their redds.

He's ready at a moment's notice to swim over the redd and coat the eggs with milt.

I love how the afternoon sun illuminates the female's tail and makes it glow reddish-orange against the aquamarine color of the creek water.
