Day 22 – 356 Days of Trout

Day 22 - Big Bertha

What a big lady! This female rainbow trout hangs in the shallows, looking for the perfect spawning bed.

She seems suspended in the calm waters while she eyes the gravel for the perfect spot.

Lakes require a more thorough examination for spawning, as trout need a silt-free area for their eggs. Spring holes and windward shores offer the best spawning beds.
