Day 104 – 356 Days of Trout

Day 104 - Working Girl

Clearing the redd for her eggs, the female brook trout works tirelessly to sweep away the silt and form a depression in the streambed for her eggs.

Can you imagine being swollen with eggs and having to move rocks? It must be exhausting.

The male keeps away intruders and waits for her to lay her eggs before topping them with his milt. His body makes a strange vibrating sound as he releases his milt.
