George Kesel has been tying flies since he was 13 years old, and has been tying professionally since 1979. He was lucky enough to work at Hunter’s Angling Supplies in the late 80’s through the ’90’s, where he was exposed to some of the finest fly tying teachers in the world. In addition, he tied for their traveling clients, allowing him to expand his fly tying repertoire exponentially. Tying flies for Billfish, Atlantic Salmon, Peacock Bass, Taimen, Steelhead and so many others, he is a pretty decent all-around fly tyer. He’s even bold enough to say, at this point in his life, that he can put some of the pieces together when it comes to tying, pulling from the different disciplines a pretty focused concept of what it takes to tie durable, well balanced and useful flies. As he learned at Hunter’s all those years ago, knowledge doesn’t help when you’re the only one that has it. Hopefully some of their knowledge will bleed through here.
