We filmed rainbow trout spawning last May but are just now getting around to looking at the footage.

I’ve always known that when trout hear a female sweeping a redd, whether it be browns, rainbow, or brook trout, they get really excited and swim closer to see the action. I never understood exactly why until now.

In this video, you will see a female rainbow trout sweep the redd. Watch the trout move in and gulp at the eggs! I guess that she is sweeping a redd of another female. This is a really popular place to spawn.
